The Corndog Challenge

Yesterday was our last surf session for the summer. The waves and currents were pretty nuts yesterday so we kept the kids out of the water for the first part of the day with a relay race. The relay had many different components including a surfboard hurdle, run, and football toss. But my personal favorite was THE CORNDOG CHALLENGE! In this part of the relay, the kids had to run out into the water, get soaking wet, and then roll down the hill of wet sand to cover themselves in sand like the flour of a corn dog. It was pretty hilarious to watch. You can check out a video of it here:

After the relay we had a delicious sushi lunch by Sushi Chef Travis. He taught the kids about sushi, wasabi root, and the importance of taking care of the environment. After lunch the tide went down a bit and the advanced kids went out for a surf while the others played in the water. Then we closed out the summer with a special gift and donation from our friends at Volcom. They recently held a "RECYCLE YOUR BOARDSHORTS" drive at retail stores across the nation. Volcom graciously chose Boarding House Mentors as one of the recipients of these board shorts.

As we closed out the summer, the kids were given a pair of recycled board shorts and a group photo from the summer. Many thanks to our volunteers, mentors, and the BHM Board of Directors for a memorable summer. See you all next year!
